Counseling

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Northwood Elementary! I am the School Counselor and will be providing services to your children throughout the school year. My role at school is to provide guidance and support for Northwood families and their children.

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept as well as their feelings of confidence and competence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students establish attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and families.

I visit classrooms and teach counseling lessons on character education, friendship, problem solving, conflict resolution, and career awareness. Beginning in September each year, there are also small group counseling sessions offered designed to address specific concerns throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to family changes, grief, resiliency, and school success groups. If your child is recommended for a small group I will contact you. I will also be doing individual counseling with students based on parent, teacher, and children's requests. Please contact me if you feel that one of these services might be appropriate for your child.

Please take advantage of the resources the counseling office has to offer. My door is always open if you ever have any questions or concerns about your child. I look forward to working with you and helping in any way that I can. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at weeksj@fultonschools.org or (470)254-6390. You can also see what types of things your children are learning on my website at https://mrsweeksschoolcounseling.wordpress.com/ .
